Safe travels and welcome! You’re staying near to the Ibirapuera Park and the Paulista Avenue, some of the most vibrant and bustling areas in the city. With over a million people working and living around both, they’re always lively—weekdays and weekends alike. The wide sidewalks make it easy to explore, and there’s no shortage of places to eat and sights to see. We’ll share some of our favourite spots, but feel free to follow your instincts—just maybe skip Starbucks and McDonald’s, as they taste the same everywhere (even though we like them too!).

00. Safety
00. Safety
Like in any big city, it’s important to be mindful of your surroundings. In São Paulo, pickpockets often use bicycles to snatch cell phones quickly, taking advantage of the extensive bike lanes throughout the city. When taking photos, texting, or using maps, try to stay alert and, if possible, step inside a store or café for added safety. You'll be staying in one of the coolest neighborhoods in Sao Paulo. All is good, but just use extra care.

If you’re planning to explore downtown, avoid going alone, especially at night. The area has stunning sights but can feel unsafe. Take a taxi directly to your destination. As for Mercado Municipal, while it’s famous, it has unfortunately become a bit of a tourist trap—non-Portuguese speakers often get overcharged.
